General Membership Meeting:
Back In Operations!
Sunday, Nov. 30th, 2025 - 2pm – 4pm
For Youth Initiative, 504 Oakwood Ave
Tired of getting nowhere with your Landlords failing to address issues like maintenance, but often ready to raise the rent? Has your building had several different property owners, managers, or companies, and you are not sure who can help? Is your monthly rent below the market, and your landlord is pushing you, or your neighbors out?
We know that our Landlords have gotten organized, and now are pushing for greater freedoms to extract more income off their properties. Now more than ever, its time for us, as tenants in this neighborhood, to come together. Every tenant in this community is welcome, if your building has a tenant association, or has none, our goal is to improve the living conditions of all our tenants.
Accessibility:
OVTU is committed to providing an inclusive and reasonably accessible meeting that is open to all tenants in our community. For Youth Initiative is a fully accessible venue. Kindly let us know if you have specific needs that we can seek to accommodate to assist with your ability to attend this meeting.
Goals For This Meeting:
Lately we have been watching the forceful erosion of tenant rights, not always by policy, but largely by practice, and this needs to stop. Many people in our community are protected by Rent Control, and now Landlords are finding new creative ways to push out affordable rental apartments, either by moving the cost of rent up, in Above Guideline Increases, or seeking Demovict people out.
People in this neighborhood are telling us that often they are letting maintenance issue go, as they are tire of asking, but getting nowhere, and scared of being deemed a “problem tenant”. OVTU believes that no tenant should be forced to live in fear of their Landlord, or accept poor living conditions, in order to stay housed. We desire to hear from you, and wish to stand with tenants in this community. Remember you are not alone, if you are needing support in tackling rent increases, pest control issues, maintenance issues, or generally wish to build community in your building please let us know! Our team will connect you with experienced tenant organizers for guidance and support.
We have all felt the effects of an increasingly hostile rental market, rent keeps increasing with a decrease in maintenance, repair, and upgrades. Tenant union are rising across this city, leading to real change, showing our collective power in coming together! Now more than ever are locking arms, defending our homes, our communities, and uniting, to stand up for our dignity in this city.
Our Team:
Every member of the OVTU Working Board of Directors comes from a lived experience background in tenant organizing. Most of us are literally, here with you, we are your neighbours! Would you like to get involved? Currently we are welcoming new Board Members, and would love to hear from you. In seeking to help our community, we also partnered with OVCO to share how tenants in this neighbourhood are impacted by displacement activities, everyone stay tuned, our team wants to hear your stories!
